Guatemala Mission Trip

Activity: Guatemala Mission Trip Read the 2009 Blog
Adviser: Lidibette Rosado-Guzman

For Summer 2009, one group of BSM students will be traveling to Guatemala, from June 11-24.
Juniors and seniors are invited to spend time this summer, serving abandoned and orphaned children in Guatemala.

For this fourth annual mission trip to this country, 24 BSM students will be under the leadership of Lidibette Rosado Guzman and accompanied by some of Lidibette’s family members, as well as Kitty Prentice, John Porisch, Kate Leahy, and Steve Pohlen and his family. The group will stay and work at Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos, which, according to its Web site, is “a Christian mission that strives to provide a permanent family and home for orphaned, abandoned and other at-risk children who live in conditions of extreme poverty.”

The Red Knights bound for Guatemala are Katherine Ambre, Melissa Borer, Maria Cass, Alicia Fan, Devon Fitzgerald, Rose Geiwitz, Margaret Gorrilla, Margo Graff, Kathryn Hoesley, Kelsey Hennen, Analissa Huge, Kelsey Jacobson, Erin Katopodis, Maura Kelly, Meredith Lawlor, Natalie Lesage, Katherine McClurg, Mariah Morris, Lucie Neary, Keelin O’Neil, Brittni Palkert, Melissa Plooster, Hope Sexton, and AliciaVertin.

On June 12, 2008 Ms. McDonald and Ms. Rasmussen arrived at NPH to make sure things were prepared for the students when they arrive.  The organizers at NPH are very excited for our group's arrival. They have a lot of work and fun activities planned for the students.  All of the children keep asking when our students will be coming.  We are excited for the students to arrive and to have a life-changing experience.

A few photos to show some of the sites at the home!

A trip to Guatemala is more than a life changing experience; it is an experience that provides perspective. All to often in our lives we get caught up in our own little worlds, focusing more on material possessions and selfish needs than the needs of others. Guatemala gave me the opportunity to become more appreciative of what I have been given, and truly understand the value of family. By traveling to Guatemala you are not just serving others but because of so many invaluable experiences you are serving yourself.
