Physical Education
All students are required to complete a total of four semesters of physical education. Two semesters are required during the freshman year, and two are required during the sophomore year. Concepts of Physical Education is offered as an elective during junior or senior year only.
Physical Education 9 (S1) (S2)
This is an activity-based course that involves instruction and participation in individual as well as team sports. The different team sports include but are not limited to speedball, flag football, volleyball, cricket and floor hockey. In addition, individual activities include weight training and conditioning, physical fitness testing, orienteering, heart rate monitor training and archery.
Two semesters, .5 credits per semester, required of all freshmen.
Physical Education 10 (S1) (S2)
This activity program involves instruction and participation in individual as well as team sports. The different team sports include but are not limited to ultimate fresbee, field hocky, basketball and lacrosse. In addition, individual activities include snow shoeing, cross country skiing, table tennis, badminton and weight training and physical fitness testing.
Two semesters, .5-credits per semester, required of all sophomores.
Concepts of Physical Fitness (S1)
This is a high-energy course designed to provide the groundwork for students to design their own total fitness program. This course provides information that is relevant to each person’s particular fitness goals, showing students how to alter their programs as their needs change. Students will use heart rate monitors to monitor their fitness goals, maintain healthy body weight, and improve cardiovascular levels.
One semester, one credit, open to juniors and seniors.
Wellness (S1) (S2)
This module addresses the balance and integration of body, spirit and mind. The curriculum provides information and
skills needed to support students’ spiritual, physical, intellectual, emotional, social and environmental wellness. The
module focuses on equipping students to deal with the challenges of life as upperclassmen and beyond. Juniors are
enrolled in this course for second semester; seniors are enrolled for first semester.
